About Sensei John D. Pell. Born on December 5, 1939, John D. Pell started his training in Karate in 1960 with Sensei Donald Buck of the Kyokushin Kai, from who he eventually received his 4th dan. He kept in contact with Buck Sensei and assisted in teaching some of his instructors over the years until his death. He was active in the Goju Kai Karate Do under Gosei and Gosen Yamaguchi beginning in the early 1960's and ending in the mid-1970's after attaining 4th dan. He attended the First WUKO tournament as a coach. Since the 1970s, he has also been training in the Chinese martial arts of Wu and Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. From the 1990s until 2002, he trained under Grand Master Soon Tae Yang of Kung Jung Mu Sool, from whom he received 5th dan.
